Arch McIntyre Estate

The Arch McIntyre Estate

Located on the banks of Forked Creek. Completed in 1878, this mansion had a ballroom on the 3rd floor. Archibald McIntyre settled in Wilmington in 1837 and became a very successful merchant. He operated the first store located north of Forked Creek in the Stewart Addition. The stone bridge over Forked Creek in the foreground was constructed by the Robson brothers, noted Wilmington stone masons.

Completed in October, 1904, the construction of the dam was part of an overall river improvement project to facilitate the movement of grain boats and general river traffic. Pictured are local residents and dignitaries on the Dam.
