WWII: From Homefront to Warfront

The War Memorial Committee of the Coal City VFW Post 1336 spearheaded a campaign to raise funds. Funding was accomplished through donations that were solicited among individuals and organizations within the community.

The Coal City War Memorial was dedicated during Memorial Day ceremonies on May 30, 1949. It is located on the grounds of the former high school on East Division Street. Veterans of World War II are commemorated as well as those who served in World War I, Korea, and Vietnam.
